ABOUT THE COLLEGE

Mother arts and Science College, established in 2002, and run by Al-Nazar trust, poovatoor has continuously striven to build an inclusive knowledge society through inclusive education. MASC is affiliated to university of Calicut,malappuram,kerala and is a self financing college. It is the first affiliated college in manalur legislative assembly constitution. The College got recognized by UGC under 2f and 12B in the year 2003.The College got ISO 9001:2000 certifications in the year 2003 by GLC. It imparts quality modern education. It has tried to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER)

The college began by offering academic programmes in BCom with Computer Application, BSc Computer Science, BSc Chemistry ,BBA, Msc Psychology with strength of 72 students in 2012. Today, it serves the educational aspirations of over 528 students. The College offers 6 U.G programmes, with a strength of 491 students and 35 faculty members and also offers 3 P.G programmes, with a strength of 40 students.

The college has made a significant mark in the areas of higher education, community education and continual professional development. The University has been networking with reputed public institutions and private enterprises for enhancing the educational opportunities being offered by it. The College is committed to quality in teaching, training and extension activities, and acts as a national resource centre for expertise and infrastructure system. The College has established as the Centre for Extension Education.

The College campus is located in a sprawling area of 15 acres. The campus with magnificent college buildings, beautiful landscapes, lush green lawns, provides a serene atmosphere conducive for studies. The College has 5 departments offering 6 UG,and 3 PG programmes under CCSS pattern. BCA, Computer Science, Chemistry, Commerce, Business Administration, Psychology are the programmes offered at UG level and Computer Science, Chemistry, Psychology at theS PG levels.

The College gives due importance to extracurricular and extension activities such as NSS, Fine Arts, Sports and games. The placement cell put forth all efforts to focus on the wide spread job opportunities available in the highly developed global scenario.

ISO CERTIFICATION

In recognition of our commitment to quality education has conferred our college with ISO 9001:2008 certification in DATE complying with GLC ISO 9001:2008 standards. It is indeed a proud fact that our college was awarded this coveted certificate within a span of three years since inception due to the sincere and committed efforts of both the management and the staff working in tandem as a team.

PG PROGRAMMES

  • MSc. Applied Psychology
    Eligibility : A Degree in any subject with 50% Marks. Preference will be given to subjects like Psychology, physiology, Sociology, Education, Home Science, Statics, Law etc..
    Duration : 4 Semesters with University examination at the end of each semester.
  • MSc Chemistry
    Eligibility : A degree in chemistry or science subjects with mathematics as one compulsory paper.
    Duration : 4 Semesters with University examination at the end of each semester.
  • MSc. Computer Science
    Eligibility : BSc. Computer Science or any Bsc.Degree with Maths/Statistics as main or subsidiary or BCA or BSc.(IT) degree with at least 50% mark in the optional subjects.
    Duration : 4 Semester with University examination at the end of each semester.

UG PROGRAMMES

  • Bsc. Computer Science
    Eligibility : +2 with Maths / Computer Applications as a subject of study or equivalent.
    Subsidiaries: Mathematics & Physics
    Duration :Six Semesters With University examination.
  • Bsc. Chemistry
    Eligibility : +2 science group or an equivalent Applications.
    Subsidiaries: Mathematics & Computer Applications.
    Duration :Six Semesters With University examination.*
    *With Computer Applications as subsidiary students undergoing this course is eligible to MCA
  • BCom. with Computer Application
    Eligibility : +2 or equivalent with commerce group or any group with 45% marks in part III. 5% relaxation will be given to OBC and minimum pass is required to SC/ST.
    Duration :Six Semesters With University examination.
  • BBA(Bachelor of Business Administration)
    Eligibility : +2 or equivalent with 50% aggregate marks.5% relaxation to OBC & minimum pass for SC/ST.

  • BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications)
    Eligibility : +2 With Computer Science/Maths Group, Commerce with Computer Application Group.

    LIBRARY

    The Mother College library is the most resourceful information centre. The library has the largest collection of books, journals and other related materials in the field of Education. As the role of the Library within any College can be realized only in the context of the institution's philosophy of education, the basic objectives of the Library department are in tune with those of the Mother. They are as follows:

    • To develop appropriate collections in various disciplines for satisfying the needs of the diverse clientele of the libraries of the College
    • To provide reading, lending, reference, information and documentation facilities to all categories of staff and students.
    • To develop a special collection of education books and journals at the libraries.
    • To provide documentation and comprehensive reference/information services in areas related to education.

    Mission

    The primary mission of the library is to support the educational programmes of the College by providing physical and intellectual access to information. In accordance with the objectives of the College, the library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of documents, useful for the readers.

    Service

    The Central Library provides the following services/facilities:

    • Reading
    • Reference & Referral
    • User guidance
    • Bibliographies/Indexes
    • CD-ROM search

    Rules

    Opening Hours:

    The library remains open on all the working days except Second Saturdays, Sundays and college notified holidays.

    • The opening hours of the Library are from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM
    • All Library services are provided from 9.00 AM to 5.00 PM
    • Lunch break is observed from 1.30 PM to 2.00 PM for all services except reading and circulation services.

    Use Of The Library And Materials:

    Members must show their Library Card on entering the Library, while borrowing books and journals and at any time if asked to do so by the Library Staff.

    • Briefcases, bags, umbrella, lunch boxes and other personal belongings must be deposited at the entrance.
    • Every member must sign the Register available at the entrance. Personal reading materials must be specifically indicated in the Register and shown to the security guard while entering and exiting from the Library.
    • Members are free to browse through the books. Books taken out of the shelves must be put on a table. Replacing the books on shelves is not encouraged as it may be misplaced. Misplaced book is a lost book.
    • A Non-member can use the library material on the premises with the permission
    • Readers should not mark, underline, dog-ear mark, write, tear pages or damages the Library documents.
    • Strict silence, decorum and discipline must be maintained in the Library
    • Member should behave in a reasonable and seemly fashion in the Library and must not damage library property or disturb other members.
    • Smoking, eating, sleeping and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the Library.
    • Members should not reserve seats either for themselves or for others.
    • Newspapers and magazines must be read only in the Library on specific tables and should not be taken to any other reading areas.
    • No Library material can be taken out of the library without permission.

    HOSTEL

    A girls Hostel is run by the college in the Campus. The ambience is so much of a home hence the hostel can be called a home away from home. The hostels provide a calm and relaxing atmosphere to accelerate the creative talents of the students. The facilities offered at MASC are so designed as to provide a sense of belonging, security and care as well as a spirit of independence, within reasonable limits. Care is taken to provide nutritious and hygienic food to all. The Hostel wardens give good attention to every detail because they are present round the clock. Those who wish to take admission should submit a separate application form after obtaining admission in the college. They should pay establishment charge,Caution deposit and rent at the time of admission. The mess charge will be collected monthly.

    CAFETERIA

    The college cafeteria is one of the most popular spots in the campus, with exotic traditional dishes and refreshments available throughout the college hours; it excites the foodie to the hilt. A variety of hygienic food & snack items which includes Cakes, Fresh Juices, Meals, Variety Rice, Ice Creams, etc. are served at a nominal rate. It is mainly used by the students and staff.
